Get a whole child view with non-academic assessments now available with Star Assessments
Renaissance is excited to announce that non-academic behavior assessments will be available in Star Assessments with the addition of SAEBRS.
SAEBRS is a brief norm-referenced tool that helps identify students at risk for behavior problems that can impact their learning. With SAEBRS, you can screen all students to identify those in need of intervention, assessing not only problem behaviors but also indicators of resilience and other life skills. Teachers use SAEBRS to evaluate individual K‒12 students. A companion student rater, mySAEBRS, is included as part of SAEBRS, allowing students in grades 2‒12 to self-assess their behaviors.
With the addition of SAEBRS, districts will now have assessments—all in one platform—that measure both academic and non-academic factors that impact student learning and success. This information can support their efforts to give all students the opportunity to succeed.
What SAEBRS measures
SAEBRS can provide both a teacher and a student view of a student’s behavior. It contains one broad scale for Total Behavior, with the following three subscales:
- Social Behavior, measuring students’ ability to understand social norms, empathize, and understand the perspectives of others.
- Academic Behavior, measuring skills necessary for students to be prepared for, participate in, and benefit from academic instruction.
- Emotional Behavior, measuring students’ ability to regulate internal states, adapt to change, and respond to stressful/challenging events.
Teacher view in SAEBRS
When evaluating individual students, educators complete a survey in approximately three to five minutes. The surveys can be completed at least three times per year for any student in grades K–12. The image below shows some items that are part of the survey.
Student view in SAEBRS
mySAEBRS, the student-rater companion to SAEBRS, is typically administered one to three times per year and requires approximately 5-10 minutes for students to complete. It is appropriate for students in grades 2‒12. The images below show examples of what students see when completing their survey.
SAEBRS reports
Reports are available at the classroom/group level and individual student level.
The reports allow for a comparison of teacher and student responses when both surveys have been completed.
The Group Screening Report details overall scores for total behavior and the three subscales by student for each student in a class or group, highlighting students at risk. A sample report is shown below.
The Individual Skills Report details an individual student’s responses for all items, indicating areas of risk. A sample report is shown below.
