As Renaissance continues our focus to put teachers at the center in accelerating learning for all students, we are excited to introduce new prerequisite targeted practice recommendations in Freckle for math. Teachers with premium Freckle access now receive recommendations to “assign prerequisite skills” and provide practice on the most critical skills for catching up to the skill being covered in class, supporting acceleration in addition to remediation. This ensures that students are moving forward with grade-appropriate content while also getting support as needed.
How does it work?
The prerequisite targeted practice option is available within the existing Freckle for math targeted practice flow for all grade levels, providing a differentiated assignment for students who may benefit from working on prerequisite skills to catch up to the grade level content being covered in class.
Freckle identifies students who have assessed lower than the targeted math assignment, using a mix of their Star Assessments scores (if available) and their recent practice data.
This option will create a separate prerequisite targeted practice assignment for the selected students:
- Students below the current skill level of assigned practice will be assigned prerequisite targeted practice, which includes prerequisite content along with two questions at the originally assigned level.
- Students who receive the prerequisite targeted practice assignment will not receive the assignment on the selected skill.
- Students at or above the current skill level of assigned practice will not be assigned prerequisite targeted practice.
Prerequisite targeted practice recommendations save time for teachers by identifying students who may need more practice on prerequisite skills before practicing the grade level content and then identifying the right prerequisite skills to assign to best support these students. This helps students fill gaps in their understanding of the grade level skills being covered in class. More details can be found here.
