Back-to-School 2026: Introducing Star Preschool Numeracy and Star Preschool Whole Child
As districts and early childhood programs prepare for a new school year, educators are focused on one critical goal: making sure every preschool learner starts strong and stays on track for kindergarten success.
In 2023, Renaissance introduced Star Preschool Literacy to help educators better identify the crucial pre-literacy skills students know and what they need to learn to provide equitable instruction and success in kindergarten and beyond.
We are now excited to announce that we are expanding our preschool assessment offerings with two powerful new assessments—Star Preschool Numeracy and Star Preschool Whole Child—giving educators timely, actionable insight to start the year with clarity. These assessments are specifically designed for preschool students 1 and 2 years prior to kindergarten. They help teachers identify key foundational areas where students may benefit from additional support, while effectively guiding instruction to ensure every child gets the best possible start.
Together, these new assessments expand the Star Preschool suite beyond literacy, giving educators a more complete, developmentally appropriate view of where children are starting the year and how best to support them. With clear insights across numeracy and whole child development, educators can begin the school year with confidence, clarity, and purpose.
Star Preschool Numeracy provides clear insight into students’ foundational math development, helping educators confidently plan instruction and support growth from the start of the school year.
Designed for efficient, 1:1 administration, Star Preschool Numeracy supports:
- Back‑to‑school universal screening to establish a strong, instructional baseline
- Ongoing progress monitoring to track growth across the year
- Clear seasonal benchmarks that show readiness and development over time

Academics are only part of the kindergarten readiness picture. Star Preschool Whole Child helps educators understand how children are learning, interacting, and growing—providing insight into the whole child from the very beginning of the year.
Star Preschool Whole Child gives educators streamlined tools to observe and document development across key domains, including social-emotional competencies, creativity and the arts, physical and motor skills, language and literacy, cognitive abilities, and approaches to learning.
Helping educators turn observation into action, Star Preschool Whole Child provides:
- Digital and downloadable options for flexible administration
- Insights to build on students’ strengths and support their development
