Supporting biliteracy with Star Evaluaciones
Driven by educator requests and aligned with our mission, Renaissance created Star Spanish—which will soon be renamed Star Evaluaciones—to better reflect our approach of creating assessments authentic to Spanish reading development. Star Spanish was designed to enhance support for Spanish-speaking students, especially Emerging Bilinguals, dual language learners, and those in immersion programs.
Our decision to rename our Star Assessments in Spanish highlights our commitment to providing assessments that authentically measure bilingual students’ reading and math skills. These assessments are not mere translations or adaptations of the English versions; they are carefully crafted in Spanish to accurately evaluate specific skills.
The suite of assessments (Star Early Literacy Spanish, Star Reading Spanish, and Star Math Spanish) will now be known as Star Evaluaciones.
The individual Star Spanish assessments’ name changes are as follows:
- Star Early Literacy Spanish will become Star Alfabetización temprana
- Star Reading Spanish will become Star Lectura
- Star Math Spanish will become Star Matemáticas
The updated product names will be reflected within Star and various materials by back-to-school 2025.

Please note that the only change is to the product names; there are no changes to the assessments themselves (English and Spanish).
To learn more about the development of Star assessments in Spanish, including the authenticity to the pedagogy for Spanish reading, please see this whitepaper: Development of La Progresión de la lectura de Renaissance.
In case you missed it, Renaissance recently created the Star Biliteracy Report, which allows educators to accurately and confidently track students’ reading in English and Spanish. Read this whitepaper: Biliteracy Trajectories: Supporting Literacy in Two Languages.
