Introducing the Star Biliteracy Report: Confidently track students’ reading progress
In February, we released the latest research about students’ reading growth in two languages, Biliteracy Trajectories in Star Assessments. Biliteracy trajectories are crucial because they help educators understand and support the literacy development of bilingual students in both of their languages.
During our research and development of biliteracy trajectories in Star Assessments, we collaborated closely with educators in Spanish/English dual language classrooms. This collaboration allowed us to gain valuable insights into the specific data they required and the most effective ways to present it. As a result, we developed and refined reporting features that seamlessly deliver the data educators need to accurately measure students’ biliteracy development.
Renaissance is extremely proud of this work, and we are excited to now introduce the Star Biliteracy Report. Viewing student performance through a biliteracy lens, rather than two separate monolingual lenses, provides a more holistic and accurate picture of reading development in both languages.
Interactive reporting options on the Star Biliteracy Report allow educators to compare the performance of students who are linguistically and instructionally similar to other students (meaning, those enrolled in dual language programs) nationwide.

The Star Biliteracy Report provides educators with evidence of the effectiveness of their dual language programs and, more importantly, empowers and motivates students throughout their learning journey, increasing their opportunities for future success. Ultimately, this work marks a major advancement in our understanding of biliteracy development. It holds the potential to help educators significantly enhance educational outcomes for millions of dual language learners nationwide.
