1. Access your upgraded site

How do I ensure access to our new site?

    1. An automatic redirect will be in effect for 30 days on your old URL, please update your systems to this new URL when convenient.

2. Managing your site and home page navigation

Homepage Navigation
  1. Why is the Users icon missing from my homepage?
    1. The Users tile can now be accessed by clicking on your name in the upper-right hand corner > Manage Apps & Users > Users.
  2. What if I cannot see any product tiles on my home page after I log in?
    1. This means that your class has either not been created, or is not yet completely set up. A school or district level user will need to finish setting up your class following these instructions.
  3. Why isn’t Accelerated Math, MathFacts in a Flash or English in a Flash showing on my homepage?
    1. These products have been moved to the "Other Math & Reading Apps" tile since they do not follow the same workflows, do not have the same level of integration, and do not feed into the same reports as our other Renaissance products.
  4. What is Smart Start?

3. Preparing to test

What do I need to do to before my students start quizzing?
Common questions
  1. What if a student gets the message, "It looks like you do not have any products. Please see your teacher to make sure that:…"?
    1. This means that the student is either not enrolled in a class, or is enrolled in a class that isn't completely set up. A school or district level user will need to finish setting up the students class enrollment following these instructions.

  3. Where is the Find Articles tab on the student homepage?
    1. Students will have a single Accelerated Reader or Accelerated Reader 360 tile on their home page, making it easier for them to get to the correct spot when taking a quiz or finding something to read. Print a picture of a student’s home page to call attention near computers to this change.

  3. Students will get credit for any RP quiz taken that has a percent correct of 60% or above. The Certifications Passing Percent preference that is currently available to change the percent correct that determines if the quizzes is included in Certifications is also being removed
AR Teams
  1. The AR Teams functionality has been replaced with our new Manage Groups area. All of the Accelerated Reader reports can be run for those groups, in addition to classes and individual students.
Home Connect
  • The Home Connect URL to be shared with students and families has changed. From the Reading Reports menu, you can find the Home Connect Send Home Letter in the last row of Parent Reports. Run this report and share it with parents for home access.
  • Parents who have previously set up any email notifications will need to re-enter their information in this new system. This is a great opportunity for parents to make sure they have their latest email address connected to their student’s account and sign up for new notification types that are available.
  • If you are using Accelerated Math or Math Facts in a Flash, your families will continue to access the original Home Connect URL for those products. The new link will support Accelerated Reader and Star Assessments.
Nonfiction articles
  • Students will now see recommendations for Nonfiction articles that are in their reading range! They will also have the ability to browse or search for any one of the nearly 2,000 nonfiction articles available.
  • All educators can now view the nonfiction articles from Manage Books and Quizzes menu option!  Read the articles and take the sample 3 question quiz.
  • Nonfiction article quizzes are automatically included in a student’s reading practice goals (so are the Other Reading quizzes for your textbook series).  Students can earn up to 1 point for each of the Nonfiction articles that they read and pass the quiz.
  • On the most frequently used AR Reports, you’ll now see an option to report on All Reading. This All Reading option includes your students totals for traditional reading practice quizzes, article quizzes and other reading quizzes.  These quizzes all test your student’s comprehension of what they are reading.  You can also to zero in on a single type of reading by selecting a specific quiz type.

    4. Tips for finding familiar metrics that answer key questions

Common questions
  1. Why can't I see all of a student's Accelerated Reader data when I select All Time as a reporting option?
    1. We know that teachers need to be able to quickly run reports to see their students’ latest AR activity. Because of the volume of quizzes that students in a class may have (great problem to have), we will be limiting the amount of AR data accessible from reports to be the current year plus two years. This will make sure that we can ensure great performance and quick reporting.
  2. What does All Reading include when running AR reports?
    1. On the most frequently used AR Reports, you’ll now see an option to report on All Reading. This All Reading option includes your students totals for traditional reading practice quizzes, article quizzes and other reading quizzes. These quizzes all test your student’s comprehension of what they are reading. You can also to zero in on a single type of reading by selecting a specific quiz type.

6. Explore other areas

Preferences
  1. The preferences that you had previously set for the school, classroom or students will continue to be set and function as you previously experienced, except for the preferences changed.
  2. Review a full list of preferences that were changed.
Manage books and quizzes
  1. The familiar Manage Books and Quizzes functionality has been consolidated with other content management functions, providing you a single place to go for viewing, hiding and creating Accelerated Reader content.
  2. Consider importing your school library’s MARC records in order to help students learn about books that are of interest, at the just right reading level and in your library collection! This feature is only accessible to administrators. Encourage your Renaissance administer to consider making this connection to your collection.
  3. All educators can now view the nonfiction articles from Manage Books and Quizzes menu option!  Read the articles and take the sample 3 question quiz.
Vocabulary practice
  1. If you are new to vocabulary practice quizzes, please visit the Vocabulary Practice Quizzes help page to learn more!
  2. Printing vocabulary lists is now available under the Manage Books and Quizzes area. You can use this list to share the vocabulary words with the students before they read the book. The Labels-Vocabulary Lists report and student View Vocabulary is no longer available.
  3. From the Record Book, you can review a student’s missed Vocabulary Practice Quiz items. If a student scores low on a VP quiz, this a great time to review what they missed together with the student. The Words to Study Report is no longer available.
  4. Students will continue to have access to over 11,000 Vocabulary Practice quizzes for the most popular books. Review Vocabulary Practice quizzes and review questions on VP quizzes will no longer be available. Data will continue to be available for the 1st Try words learned.
  5. Students can now take a Vocabulary Practice Quiz at any time. They will no longer be required to take and pass a Reading Practice Quiz first. It can still be a best practice for you, but we have learned that there is additional diagnostic value if the student takes both quizzes. If they pass the vocabulary practice quiz but not the reading practice quiz it may be a sign that vocabulary is not what is causing the student difficulty.
