BLOOMINGTON, MINN. (October 12, 2023) – Renaissance, a leader in pre-K–12 education technology, recently announced that the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) has awarded Star Reading the 3rd Grade Read to Achieve Alternative Assessment contract. Districts can select Star Reading as their alternative assessment for third-grade students to demonstrate proficiency in reading comprehension.

“Renaissance is proud to partner with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to support the Read to Achieve Program,” said Mark DeFranco, Regional Vice President at Renaissance. “Star Reading is a reliable and valid assessment of reading comprehension. North Carolina educators can be confident using the assessment as the third grade alternative assessment.”

Star Reading has high ratings from the National Center on Intensive Intervention and is currently used by many North Carolina districts for universal screening, progress monitoring, and tracking growth. It helps educators accurately assess student development for targeted instruction and intervention.

“As a longtime advisor to Renaissance, I’m pleased to see the company make this important service available to North Carolina schools,” remarked former State Superintendent Dr. Mike Ward.
