How Renaissance Flow 360 automates the personalized learning process

Engaging students in the right instructional practice at the right time is daunting, especially with students at various learning levels and an average of 22 different instructional practice solutions in every classroom nationwide. No wonder educators are often overwhelmed and unsure of how to personalize learning in their classrooms!

Renaissance Flow 360® harnesses technology to make personalized lesson planning easier, building on more than 30 years of experience in mapping and understanding how students learn. The engine driving Renaissance Flow 360 automates complex personalized lesson planning and simplifies the process for new and seasoned teachers alike. Let’s take a closer look at how Renaissance Flow 360 is able to automate the personalized lesson planning process and simplify student mastery reporting through skills, scores, and instructional resources.

Skills: The building blocks of education

Let’s begin with skills, the discreet educational units that students need to learn and master before advancing in school. Skills are the building blocks of education and our exclusive learning progressions act as stepping stones toward skills mastery. Every required skill is listed in Renaissance Flow 360 and enhanced with a series of activities to make it even more powerful. Here’s how it happens:

  • First, each skill is mapped in a synching process to all matching instructional resources from our Renaissance Growth Alliance™ partners, such as Classworks® or Edmentum. Educators see specific practice activities, assignments, and lesson plans that cover each skill their students need to master.

  • Second, each skill is aligned to state-specific learning standards, a process that is reviewed and refined each year to help educators guide their students toward mastery of grade-level standards in their respective states.

  • Third, skills are arranged in a teachable order so educators can see what students need to know before they’re ready to move on to something else. In addition, focus skills—considered key to future learning—are highlighted.

Score: Assessment scores start the engine

When students take an early literacy, reading, or math assessment using Renaissance Star 360®, educators can see precisely where each student stands on their particular state’s unique learning path. Since skills are listed in a teachable order, educators can see students’ scores and what skills they’re ready to learn next.

In addition, Renaissance Flow 360 groups students based on their scores in order to simplify the lesson planning process.

Instructional resources: The right practice at the right time

Now, the magic starts to happen! For each group of students, educators know which skills they’re ready to learn next. Because a standard measure of growth is applied, Renaissance automatically provides the set of skills the students are ready to learn every time an educator does lesson planning. For each of the skills an educator chooses to focus on, Renaissance automatically presents a list of relevant instructional resources that are aligned to the particular skill level and provide the deep practice needed to lead students to mastery.

After students complete their practice and instruction from our partners, the results are returned to Renaissance and shared with educators in a unified mastery report. And, you guessed it! Because everything is aligned to skill levels, educators get consistent, comparable, and easy-to-understand results from different solutions and providers, as well as information at every level, including domain, standard, skill and subskill.
